Inside the work
A whole world begins with one idea.
The new‑version acrobatic‑ballet production Swan Lake is a masterful creation that artfully blends the exotic charms of the Western Regions, the splendour of the Great Tang civilisation and the profound culture of Chang’an. It elevates the story to a broader perspective of human civilisation exchanges between the East and the West.
The nimble, ingenious feats of Chinese acrobatics shine in perfect harmony with the grace and nobility of Western ballet. This not only enriches the narrative layers of the drama, but also brings unprecedented brilliance and depth to its visual presentation, realising an artistic vision of “each culture cherishes its own beauty, and all thrive together in shared splendour”.
Set to Tchaikovsky’s timeless score for Swan Lake, the pure‑white swan gracefully leaps onto the prince’s shoulders… The show weaves multiple classic high‑level acrobatic techniques throughout its runtime. Its spectacular performances captivated London audiences, who responded repeatedly with screams and thunderous applause.
From 21 June to 29 June, this acrobatic‑ballet Swan Lake by Xi’an Zhanshi‑Zhanqi Acrobatic Troupe (under Xi’an Performing Arts Group) concluded its 13‑show run at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, amid gasps of wonder and admiration from audiences.
