Don Juan

The French musical Don Juan is set in the ancient Spanish city of Seville and tells the love story of Don Juan, an aristocratic libertine famed for his seductive pursuits. Its greatest departure from other adaptations lies in the fact that this version makes Don Juan genuinely fall in love—with a female sculptor named Maria. Once in love, his character undergoes a dramatic transformation, shifting from a carefree womanizer to a hesitant and vulnerable man. In the end, he is killed in a duel with Maria's fiancé, fatally wounded because his attention wavers.

The musical takes Don Juan's love for Maria as its turning point, presenting two sharply contrasting personas of the same character. The script downplays the religious elements found in traditional tellings, focusing instead on a more humanistic portrayal of the characters. The most subversive twist is turning Don Juan from a libertine into a "devoted lover" who ultimately dies for love.

The music is infused with rich Spanish flamenco influences, with passionate and energetic singing and dancing. The show features 38 songs, performed almost entirely through continuous singing, delivering intense emotional expression from start to finish.
